Live View: Sangre de Cristo Mountains & The Spanish Peaks
Welcome to a spectacular high-altitude perspective from South Central Colorado. Our state-of-the-art Pan-Tilt-Zoom (PTZ) webcam is situated in the rugged mountains above the town of Weston, Colorado, just north of the New Mexico border.
This camera offers a dynamic, sweeping view of the San Isabel National Forest, capturing a landscape defined by dramatic geological contrasts. From this vantage point, viewers can experience the raw beauty of the Southern Rockies, where the jagged spine of the Sangre de Cristo range meets the legendary, isolated giants known as the Spanish Peaks.

The Southern Sangre de Cristo Range
To the west, the camera captures the formidable wall of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. This range creates a natural boundary between the high plains and the San Luis Valley. The webcam’s rotation highlights several key summits that define this rugged borderland:
- Culebra Peak: Standing as a solitary giant, this is one of the southernmost “14ers” in the Rockies and a dominant feature on the skyline.
- Trinchera Peak: A massive, high-altitude summit often snow-capped well into the summer, sitting adjacent to the Culebra massif.
- State Line Peak & Purgatoire Peak: These remote and rugged mountains mark the true southern edge of the Colorado Rockies. As their names suggest, they sit near the state boundary and overlook the headwaters of the Purgatoire River.
The Spanish Peaks (Los Huajatollas)
Pan toward the east, and the view shifts to one of the most iconic landmarks in the American West. Rising dramatically from the foothills and standing apart from the main mountain chain, the Spanish Peaks are geologically distinct igneous intrusions known to the indigenous people of the region as “Los Huajatollas” (Breasts of the Earth).
- West Spanish Peak: The higher and bulkier of the pair, reaching over 13,600 feet. Its massive, conical shape dominates the eastern horizon.
- East Spanish Peak: Slightly lower but equally striking, forming the classic twin-peak silhouette that has guided travelers and traders for centuries.
The Foothills & Foreground
While the alpine summits command attention, the camera also captures the texture of the surrounding wilderness.
- Raspberry Mountain: Visible in the foreground layers, this peak adds depth to the view, showcasing the dense pine and aspen forests of the San Isabel National Forest that blanket the slopes leading up to the alpine tundra.
